All six episodes from steeplejack Fred Dibnah's TV series looking at Britain's architectural heritage. This is an intimate portrait of Fred, from his childhood in Bolton, to his days as a steeplejack – the job he was to love above all others – and on to his successful television career. As Fred grew up, despite parental disapproval, he pursued his first goal of becoming a steeplejack, and it was his outstanding skill in his chosen profession that led to his first appearance on television.A poor condition book can still make a good reading copy but is generally not collectible unless the item is very scarce. Keith counts himself fortunate to have known Fred Dibnah personally and to have observed the 'great man' first hand as he went about his fascinating work. You'd have to be a Fred Dibnah fan to truly enjoy this book - if you're not, I'd probably give it a miss. Some reviewers have said it's a little bit repetitive, but I can almost envisage Fred with a pint of Guinness in hand repeating some of the same stories in different pub - don't we all?

I knew Fred and I know Alan too and this book gives an insight into the admiration the latter had for the former. The text covers 28 different ‘chimneys’, all but about 5 of which stood within a 12 mile radius of Fred’s own home, indeed a handful were within walking distance.
